TRIBUTES have been paid to a "dedicated" Ilkeston soldier killed in a blast in Afghanistan on Saturday.
Lance Sergeant Dave Greenhalgh was killed instantly when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Helmand Province.
He and his colleagues were Porsche Design Watches providing safe passage for a patrol near Lashkar Gah.
The 25-year-old's death came as British troops launched Operation Moshtarak to drive back the Taliban in the war-torn country.
L/Sgt Greenhalgh, of the Queen's Company of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, was praised as an "utterly dedicated" soldier who died "protecting his men".
He was known for his distinctive moustache and an array of tattoos dedicated to his family, regiment and country.
Since joining the Army in 2001, he had been on tours in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
He spent time training in the Falkland Islands and Kenya and served during last year's fire service Christian Dior Handags Replica strikes.
In his roles as Search Team Commander and Tactical Questioner, he was trained to drive a variety of military vehicles and carry out psychological operations.
His Army colleagues have been paying tribute to the "dedicated soldier who had risen rapidly through the ranks".
Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Roly Walker said L/Sgt Greenhalgh was "watching over others so they could move safe from harm" at the time of his death.
He added: "He was a tough soldier and a natural commander, a decent and honest man, and a friend to those he knew.

Captain of The Queen's Company, Major Alex Cartwright, said: "You always knew when L/Sgt Greenhalgh was in the room or on your patrol.
"He had great presence, always raising the spirits of those enjoying his company and raising the standards of those soldiering alongside him.
"Those that were fortunate enough to spend time with him were immediately struck by his strong will and passion for life."
